exclusive first look -Kill The Rapist - rangrezz

Akshay stays on to be prolific as he readies for OUATIM 2

Has Akshay Kumar slowed down on work? This may seem to some if the gap between releases of his films is any indication. For someone who is known to churn out an average of one film every three months, it is a huge exception to see as good as a six month gap between his films.

"While Special 26 released in February, his next, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, is exactly six months ahead. While former arrived on February 8, latter would be coming on August 8, which also marks the festive occasion of Eid", informs a source.

This is in huge contrast to last year when as many as five of his films (Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, Joker, OMG Oh My God!, Khiladi 786) released in a span of 10 months. So does this mean that he has chartered a new plan for himself in years to come, now that he has won huge appreciation for his 'acting skills' in Special 26?

"Naah", says a close associate of the actor, "It is just an aberration that there is a six month gap between his films. However, he is neither slowing down nor is he taking a break. In months to follow, he would be almost done with Boss and the remake of Thuppakki. Most likely he would begin one more film in between as well. After the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2, his Boss would arrive just two months later in October and post that there would be more releases every three-four months. He is not changing his formula."

This would be a sigh of relief for Akshay fans who are used to seeing him more often in a year when compared to the other top superstars around.

"In fact, during the decade gone by, there have been only two instances when there has been a gap of six months or more between two of his films. While Andaaz (May 2003) and Khakee (Jan 2004) were eight months apart, Garam Masala (2005) and Waqt (2005) were spaced out by a little over six months", an observer adds.

It is different though in 2013. Moreover, with three confirmed releases this year (there are murmurs that Thuppakki too could well arrive before end of year), he is still more prolific than other top superstars who have one or at maximum two releases each this year.

"Happy to be compared with Parineeti and Anushka" - Rhea

She is the newest girl in the block. To add to that, she has backing of none less than Yash Raj banner. Rhea Chakraborty, an ex-MTV VJ, is making her debut with Mere Dad Ki Maruti and if her song-n-dance routine - as evidenced in the film's promos - are any indication, she is pretty much fitting in well into the B-town.

Young and vibrant - Is that the best way to describe Rhea?
Well, there is obviously much more to me than just being young, vibrant or energetic. Yes, this may be a first impression that I could well be giving. However I am enthusiastic in a lot of other things. To start with, I am a deep thinker. I think and re-think stuff all the time. I am also very ambition driven. Also, needless to say, I am a big fan of acting.

In the recent past, YRF has launched quite a few girls and the ones who have managed to make a mark are Anushka Sharma and Parineeti Chopra. Isn't that something playing in your mind since you have big shoes to fill? Doesn't the weight of expectations turn scary at times since nothing less than the best would be acceptable?
Rather than being scared, I am happy to be compared with Anushka and Parineeti. If despite not doing anything before in the world of movies, I am lucky if people are saying anything on these lines. See, I like what Anushka and Parineeti have done so far. They are young, just a few years older than me and proved their worth as actresses. They are good performers and look good. Anushka has already done a movie with Yashji, something which half the industry must be envying. I am happy that these are people from YRF itself. They are my seniors, which reflects on the kind of talent that comes from Yash Raj.

While these are the women who have managed to create a place for themselves in the industry, you must have been inspired by men from the industry as well.
Whether you look at all superstars, be it Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor, they are crazy about what they do and are passionate to the core. This is the reason why when you look at them play another person, you fall in love with them. What is acting eventually? It is about audience falling in love with the character that you portray on screen. I am playing the character of Jasleen in Mere Dad Ki Maruti. If the film works and people fall in love with Jasleen, I would have a lot to cheer and smile about.

Freida Pinto - Rajkumar Yadav film titled NH10

#
Freida Pinto, in her Bollywood debut plays a female detective in a road thriller entitled NH10 with Kai Po Che's talented Rajkumar Yadav.

Flooded with roles, the talented Rajkumar Yadav has just signed Navdeep Singh's new film where Freida Pinto makes her Bollywood debut as detective out to crack a complex case.

Rajkumar Yadav has been roped in place of Navdeep's best friend Abhay Deol.

"It's a film entitled NH10 meaning National Highway No 10. It will be shot around Delhi. I signed the film because I am a great fan of Navdeep's Manorama Six Feet Under. Having Freida Pinto as my co-star is definitely interesting," says Rajkumar whose next release is Vikas Behl's Queen opposite Kangna Ranaut.

Coincidentally the producers of NH10 and Queen are the same, Phantom.

Says Rajkumar, "I share a great comfort level with the Queen team. That helped me to make up my mind about doing the film. But the clincher was the director Navdeep. Ever since I saw Manorama Six Feet Under I wanted to work with him."

At the moment Rajkumar is looking forward to the release of his next film Hansal Mehta's Shahid where he plays the real-life lawyer Shahid Azmi.

"It's a film that will benefit immensely from the success of Kai Po Che. It's an important film for me personally as an actor and also for what it has to say," says Rajkumar.

Critics and the audience have noted the vast leap in Raj Kumar's versatility quotient from his first two major films Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Ragini MMS where he was a horny jerk who couldn't wait to drag the girl into bed, to the shy polite gentle chap in Kai Po Che who flinches when the girl touches him.

Laughs Rajkumar, "Yes, people have noticed the contrast in my roles. I am happy to be part of Kai Po Che. The twitter is filled with praise. I now need to proceed with extreme caution. I don't want to do the wrong roles."

Esha to do item number in Punit's film

#
The recently proposed alteration to the censorship laws in regards to item numbers in films doesn't seem to be gaining much steam. Proving this is none other than Esha Gupta who will soon be seen gyrating in Punit Malhotra's film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

The Jannat 2 actress will be performing an item song in Malhotra's film which is produced Karan Johar and stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor. It is learnt that Esha was roped in at the last minute and flew to Bangalore to shoot the song.

Apparently, Punit had initially decided not to cast any actress in the track. However, at the last minute he changed his mind and approached Esha. Punit had conceptualized the entire sequence focusing only on Imran, however when things got going, it was decided that the girl's part was crucial and hence he called Karan to help rope in Esha Gupta.

Mahesh Bhatt is all set to take on the biggest challenge ever. The filmmaker will be writing a biopic based on the life of legendary musician Bhupen Hazarika. The biopic will be jointly written by Mahesh Bhatt and Kalpana Lajmi. Lajmi will also be directing the film produced by Pooja Bhatt.

Entitled Dhumuha: The Storm, the film will explore Hazarika's stormy life and music and his passionate 40-year-old relationship with Kalpana Lajmi. Though how much of her life would Kalpana be revealing is yet unknown, Bhatt says that the film will feature memories of her passionate relationship with Bhupen, her untold story of a girl who worshipped the man and the musician she fell in love with.

While on the other hand, the cast of the film is yet to be decided with Kalpana commenting that she would want Vidya Balan to play her part. As for the technical side, Santosh Sivan, who has worked with Kalpana in Rudaali and Darmiyaan, will be doing the cinematography.

Vidyut replaces Irrfan in Bullet Raja

#
Irrfan Khan known to portray some of the best character roles we have seen has apparently opted out of Tigmanshu Dhulia's next Bullet Raja. Khan who has earlier worked with Tigmanshu on films like Charas, Paan Singh Tomar and more recently Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 2, opted out of the film as his dates were clashing with an international project he had already committed to.

Replacing him in the film will be the rising action star Vidyut Jamwal, who is also awaiting the release of Commando. Apparently, the Lucknow schedule of the film first got delayed due to the post-production of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 2. Later, Tigmanshu got busy promoting the sequel. Now when the unit is finally headed to Lucknow for the shoot, Irrfan found his dates clashing with the international project he had already signed.

Confirming the development, Tigmanshu says that Vidyut has the necessary potential for the role, while producer Rahul Mittra has gone ahead and has had several meetings with the actor.

Sushant denies getting offers from KJo, Bhansali

#
Post the success of Kai Po Che, there were rumours that Sushant Singh Rajput has been offered films by Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and that the actor had refused these offers. However, Sushant's publicist completely denies this story as baseless and untrue.

An official statement issued by Sushant's publicist states, "Sushant is at the start of his career and he looks upto both Mr. Johar and Mr. Bhansali and it would be an honor for him to be offered films by them. At present however, no offer has been made and he is busy shooting films that he had signed prior to the release of Kai Po Che."

Jolly LLB borrows from Alistair Pereira case

#
It is a case of reel life borrowing from real, though understandably no one is willing to go on record to admit it. Subhash Kapoor's Jolly LLB seeks its starting-point from the Alistair Pereira hit-and-run case which hit headlines in 2006.

The film in fact opens with a sequence showing a hit-and-run incident whose details seem uncannily similar to the Pereira case.

Understandably, the film's director Subhash Kapoor is wary of admitting to real-life resemblances lest the film gets slapped with more litigation alleging the film to be anti-judiciary.

Says Kapoor cautiously, "It is based on a few real-life hit-and-run cases."

About the legal notices that the film satirizing the judicial system has received, Subhash Kapoor says, "The legal department is working on it. The Delhi High Court refused to 'stay' the film's release. Hopefully that takes care of the matter."

Salman to associate with Dubai tourism

#
Bollywood and international tourism have had a long standing agreement, when a celebrity endorses a certain country, that country in return grants unparalleled shooting rights for that particular celebrity's film. The latest we hear in terms of celebs endorsing international destinations is Salman Khan. If what we hear is true, then Salman will soon be investing in a tourism project in Dubai.

Salman, who was recently in the country shooting for his film Mental, apparently met the project developers for the same. However, talks are still on as Khan hasn't yet taken a decision. The project was announced last year and the project is called Dubailand.

Apart from this, we hear that Salman is also looking at buying an apartment there.
